Protite Bitumen Membrane

PROTiTE Bitumen Membrane is a water-based copolymer modified bitumen liquid membrane for general multipurpose waterproofing tasks, from above ground to below ground, internally and externally. It dries to form a black, glossy flexible and firm membrane. For added protection in full sun, coat with acrylic paint.

Features

Coverage
Minimum 1.5 litres/m2 total, applied as 2 or more coats.

Preparation
Remove dirt, dust, flaking rust, loose particles and coatings, oily grime and unsound concrete. Scrub aged bitumen surfaces with turps or kero. Sand aged timber. Ensure surfaces are dry, stable and structurally sound. Allow concrete and render to fully cure. Prime fine cracks, porous surfaces and metals with 1 part water mixed into 2 parts membrane. For larger cracks, expansion joints and floor wall junctions, seal neatly with neutral cure silicone sealant and when cured, apply membrane with fabric reinforcement as explained below.

Application
For thin application gently stir product before use. Apply evenly and check for missed areas and pinholes. Apply further coats from cross directions after drying time of about 4 to 6 hours. Use Protite Reinforcing Fabric over expansion joints, cracks, all wall and floor junctions and pipe penetrations. Apply this by first brushing out a layer of membrane (1-2 mm), next lay in the fabric and ensure there are no air bubbles or wrinkles, and the fabric is fully set in. Brush over with more membrane until the fabric is completely covered. Do not apply below 10oC. Before direct contact with water or soil allow at least 10 days to cure. Use plastic protection board before backfilling waterproofed foundations. To prolong the life of membrane in sun exposure, coat with exterior acrylic paint.
